In Chattanooga, the Summer is long and hot, and most of us long for the sweet relief of the cooler mornings of Autumn and a break from the tropical heat. Knitters and crocheters feel it even more intensely. Even though we love our tees and tanks, our linens and cottons, and our small projects, we long for the long, cold nights knitting our cozy woolens with a warm cup of tea. I know, it's such a stereotype, but we do love our hygge.
When I'm shopping for yarn for Chattanooga Yarn Co, I have to order about six months in advance of the season, so I'm buying Fall yarns about the same time y'all are shopping for swimsuits, and it's kind of weird. But I also get the really, really fun advantage of being excited about Fall yarns for MUCH longer than my customers, because I know how cool these new yarns are!
Here at the shop, Fall yarns have been coming in regularly, but they're not all in yet. One early favorite is Poema Cashmere, a dreamy gradient cashmere merino that has already been a hit and been reordered once. People are making the Churchmouse Easy Folded Poncho and some very elegant shawls out of it and the finished products are already gorgeous.
If you follow on social media, you already know that I'm just absolutely obsessed with Queen City Yarns and have cranked out TWO tops that are already in the shop! Latta is a 100% American wool with a fun, squishy bounce and very intense colors (also already reordered) and Coleman is a year round silk/linen blend that has a nice drape and breathability that will carry you through the entire year.
I'm waiting on a couple of new yarns that I'm very excited about. Kelbourne Cozy is a WASHABLE alpaca/wool blend (how? just how??) that feels amazing and will be your new go-to sweater yarn. I really cannot wait to get it on the wall and start knitting with it. Rowan has a new introduction to their Mode line with Colourmix -- a soft, solid-color yarn with little spots of color that work up with a subtle but playful bit of patterning. Queensland Collection has a new tweed that's a cotton/wool/silk blend called Trinity that I think is going to be extremely popular -- I brought in every color and I think it's going to be the PERFECT tweed for a wintery look that won't cook you alive in our mild climate.
There are lots more yarns, but I've prattled on enough. You'll want to check in frequently, because when I say we get new yarns in EVERY DAY, I'm not exaggerating! I haven't even mentioned the bags, notions, gifts, and doodads that I love to keep in stock, or the new books that I've pre-ordered and can't wait to share with you!
Happy Fall, Y'all! Let get crafting!
